READ TO THE CLASS
[A teacher in Ohio] presents a series of read alouds that are fun and introduce her students to other staff in the school.
"When I taught second grade, I would read The Teacher from the Black Lagoon on the first day of school. Then every day for the next week or so, we would have a guest reader. The principal would come in and read The Principal from the Black Lagoon, the custodian would read The Custodian from the Black Lagoon, etc. This way, the students had the opportunity to meet the staff at our school and make a personal connection with them. It was a lot of fun, and a great way to start the year with a feeling of community."
SCHOOL KNOWLEDGE PROGRAM
Teachers across the nation are using the Black Lagoon Series Picture Books to educate their students about the different positions and job functions of the school staff. Starting at kindergarten and during the next couple of years students get a laugh and the joy of great humor while learning the important job each position represents.
DECORATE THE CLASSROOM
A great art project for the whole classs. Each student or team of students can make Black Lagoon posters, do large, life-sized character cutouts or make posters of one liner sayings about the book.
READING & PUPPET SHOW
A team of students can develop a puppet show using the Black Lagoon puppets. They can make props. Then some of the students can operate the puppets while others read for the characters.
YOUNG WRITERS' PROGRAM
A writing project for some students can be a real challenge. Using the Black Lagoon Series as a fun writing guide have your students write their own stories about jobs they know. How about the Dog Catcher from the Black Lagoon, or the Mailman from the Black Lagoon? The enjoyment of creating fun one liners and jokes will motivate the students through a very creative, fun writing project.
